Destination Guide

Indonesia offers varied relocation choices. Bali is the most popular island for international hospitality professionals, with strong opportunities in luxury hotels, resorts, events, restaurants and tourism, especially around Nusa Dua, Seminyak and Ubud. Jakarta, on Java, provides broader corporate and MICE opportunities but has a faster pace, heavier traffic and a more urban lifestyle. Lombok and other islands offer a quieter setting and growing resort employment, although services and international schools may be more limited. Indonesian culture values respect, community, modesty and religious diversity; local customs differ by island. Bali is predominantly Hindu, while many other areas are Muslim. Foreign employees normally need employer sponsorship, an approved work permit and the appropriate limited-stay work visa; working on a tourist visa is not permitted. Relocating candidates should confirm housing, taxes, healthcare, transport and family arrangements with the employer before arrival.
