Destination Guide

Singapore is a compact, modern island city with strong opportunities in hospitality, tourism, aviation, finance, technology, healthcare and professional services. English is widely used at work, while Mandarin, Malay and Tamil are also official languages. The culture is multicultural, orderly and fast-paced, with excellent public transport, reliable services, diverse food and lively neighbourhoods. Housing can be expensive, especially in central areas, so new arrivals often compare shared accommodation with smaller apartments farther from the city centre. Employment eligibility depends on nationality, qualifications and salary. Hospitality employers may sponsor an S Pass or another suitable work pass, subject to government requirements and approval; candidates should confirm current rules with Singapore's Ministry of Manpower. Relocation normally involves securing an offer first, arranging the work pass, accommodation, insurance and tax registration. Singapore's tropical climate is hot and humid year-round, with frequent rain.
