Destination Guide

Singapore is a compact, highly connected island city-state with strong opportunities in hospitality, engineering, facilities management, technology, finance, healthcare and logistics. The culture is multicultural, with English widely used alongside Mandarin, Malay and Tamil. Life is convenient and generally safe, with excellent public transport, modern healthcare, shopping and a diverse food scene. Housing can be expensive, particularly near central areas, so many employees share accommodation or live near MRT lines outside the city centre. Foreign workers generally need an employer-sponsored work pass, such as an Employment Pass, S Pass or Work Permit, depending on qualifications, salary and occupation. The employer usually submits the application, and approval is subject to government criteria and quotas where applicable. New arrivals should budget for rent, transport, deposits and health insurance, and verify the employment contract and pass conditions before relocating.
