Destination Guide

Hong Kong is a compact, energetic territory made up of Hong Kong Island, Kowloon and the New Territories, with outlying islands offering a quieter lifestyle. Hospitality jobs are concentrated in luxury hotels, resorts, restaurants, clubs and event venues, especially in Central, Tsim Sha Tsui, Admiralty, Causeway Bay, Disneyland and the airport area. The culture blends Cantonese traditions with international influences, and English is widely used in hotels and business. Life is convenient, safe and highly connected, though accommodation is expensive and living space is often limited. Public transport is excellent, with MTR trains, buses, ferries and trams. Foreign workers generally need an employment visa sponsored by an employer before starting work; the employer must show a genuine role and suitable conditions. Applicants should prepare qualifications, references, medical documents and a valid passport, and budget for deposits, transport and initial living costs.
