Destination Guide

Sri Lanka offers opportunities in hotels, tourism, restaurants, travel services, wellness, education, technology, and business support, particularly in Colombo, Galle, Hambantota, Kandy, and resort areas. The culture combines Sinhalese, Tamil, Muslim, and colonial influences, with strong traditions of hospitality, family, religion, food, music, and festivals. Lifestyle varies from busy urban living to a slower coastal or rural pace, with beaches, wildlife parks, tea country, and historic sites easily accessible. Foreign employees generally need an employer-sponsored employment visa or residence authorization before starting work; requirements should be confirmed with the Sri Lankan mission and employer. Relocating staff should review accommodation, healthcare, schooling, taxation, transport, and insurance arrangements. English is widely used in tourism, while Sinhala and Tamil are the main local languages. Hambantota is quieter and less urban than Colombo, so planning for transport and amenities is important.
