Destination Guide

Penang Island is one of Malaysia’s best-known destinations for hospitality, tourism, engineering, healthcare, education, technology and service-sector employment. George Town offers heritage architecture, street food, cafés, shopping and a lively multicultural community, while Batu Feringgi is centred on resorts, beaches and leisure businesses. Malay, English, Mandarin and several Chinese dialects are commonly heard. Living costs are generally lower than Kuala Lumpur, although rents near the coast and tourist areas can be higher. The climate is hot, humid and tropical throughout the year. Foreign employees normally need an employer-sponsored Employment Pass, with the company handling much of the application process and approval requirements. New arrivals should arrange accommodation, medical cover, banking and transport; buses, ride-hailing services and private vehicles are widely used.
