Destination Guide

Malaysia offers hospitality, procurement and supply-chain opportunities in Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Langkawi, Kota Kinabalu and other resort destinations. Island living in Langkawi or Penang is generally relaxed, with beaches, outdoor activities, diverse food and a multicultural community; Kuala Lumpur provides more urban convenience and career mobility. Malaysian culture blends Malay, Chinese, Indian and Indigenous traditions, and English is widely used in hotels and business. Costs are moderate, although central Kuala Lumpur and popular resort areas can be more expensive. Foreign employees normally require an Employment Pass sponsored by the employer, and approval must be obtained before starting work. Relocating candidates should confirm accommodation, medical coverage, tax responsibilities and contract terms. Malaysia has warm, humid weather year-round, with monsoon conditions varying by coast. Public transport is stronger in cities, while island locations may require taxis or private transport.
