Destination Guide

Malaysia offers opportunities in hospitality, tourism, sustainability, events, retail, education and technology, with particularly active markets in Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Langkawi, Sabah and Sarawak. Island locations such as Langkawi and Penang provide a relaxed lifestyle, warm weather, beaches, diverse food and strong cultural influences from Malay, Chinese, Indian and indigenous communities. Living costs are generally lower than in many major international cities, although accommodation in resort areas can be expensive. Foreign employees normally need an employer-sponsored Employment Pass, with approval depending on qualifications, salary and current immigration rules; the employer usually handles the application. Candidates should confirm contract benefits, accommodation, insurance, transport and tax treatment before relocating. Malaysia uses English widely in business, while Malay is the national language. Tropical heat, humidity, monsoon seasons and occasional travel limitations should be considered when choosing an island-based role.
