Destination Guide

Singapore is a modern island city-state with strong opportunities in hospitality, tourism, engineering, facilities management, finance, technology and healthcare. The culture is multicultural, orderly and generally respectful, with English widely used alongside Mandarin, Malay and Tamil. Lifestyle options range from excellent public transport, diverse food and shopping to parks, waterfront areas and an active expatriate community. Living costs, particularly rent, are high, although salaries and public services are comparatively strong. Foreign professionals normally require an employer-sponsored work pass, such as an Employment Pass or S Pass, subject to qualifications, salary thresholds and government approval. Employers usually assist with applications and onboarding, but candidates should confirm eligibility before relocating. New arrivals should budget for accommodation deposits, healthcare coverage, transport and daily expenses. Singapore’s tropical climate is hot and humid year-round, with frequent rain, so suitable clothing and practical housing arrangements are important.
