Destination Guide

Singapore is a compact, highly connected city-state with strong opportunities in hospitality, tourism, events, finance, technology, healthcare and logistics. The culture is multicultural, with English widely used alongside Mandarin, Malay and Tamil. Residents enjoy excellent public transport, reliable infrastructure, diverse food, shopping, parks and a lively arts and entertainment scene. The cost of living can be high, particularly for accommodation, although public transport and everyday dining can be affordable. Foreign professionals generally need an employer-sponsored work pass, such as an Employment Pass or S Pass, depending on qualifications, salary and eligibility rules. Employers commonly assist with applications, but approval is not automatic. New arrivals should budget for housing deposits, healthcare, transport and relocation costs, and confirm work-pass requirements before accepting an offer.
