Destination Guide

Hong Kong is a compact coastal city and major international business centre, although it is not a single island; Hong Kong Island, Kowloon and the New Territories form the main urban area. Hospitality offers opportunities in luxury hotels, restaurants, catering, clubs and tourism, with demand for skilled chefs and bakery professionals. Cantonese culture influences food, festivals and everyday life, while English is widely used in hotels and business. The lifestyle is energetic, convenient and urban, with excellent public transport, varied dining, hiking trails and beaches. Housing is expensive, so shared accommodation or employer assistance can be important. Foreign workers generally need an approved employment visa before starting work, with the employer sponsoring the application and demonstrating a genuine job offer. Applicants should prepare passports, qualifications, employment records and health or background documents where required. Hong Kong’s humid climate and fast pace may require adjustment.
