Destination Guide

Singapore is a highly developed island city-state with strong opportunities in hospitality, tourism, food and beverage, retail, logistics, finance and technology. English is widely used at work, while Mandarin, Malay and Tamil are also official languages. The culture is multicultural, orderly and fast-paced, with excellent public transport, extensive shopping, diverse food and many parks and waterfront areas. Living costs, particularly rent, are relatively high, so shared accommodation is common for entry-level workers. Foreign employees generally need an appropriate work pass sponsored by an employer, such as an Employment Pass, S Pass or Work Permit, depending on qualifications, salary and occupation. Applicants should secure a formal job offer before relocating and confirm pass eligibility with Singapore’s Ministry of Manpower. Healthcare and transport are efficient, and the climate is hot and humid year-round with frequent rain.
