Destination Guide

Singapore is a compact, modern island city-state with strong opportunities in hospitality, food and beverage, tourism, retail, technology and finance. The culture is multicultural, with English widely used alongside Mandarin, Malay and Tamil. Life is safe, efficient and convenient, with excellent public transport, healthcare and plentiful dining and entertainment. Housing and daily expenses can be high, especially near central areas, so staff accommodation or a realistic budget should be considered. Foreign workers generally need an employer-sponsored work pass; hospitality employees may require an S Pass or Work Permit, subject to prevailing eligibility rules and quotas. The employer typically submits the application. Before relocating, candidates should confirm salary, service charge, accommodation, meals, medical coverage, working hours and leave. Singapore’s tropical climate is hot and humid throughout the year, with frequent rainfall.
