Destination Guide

Hong Kong offers opportunities in hotels, restaurants, finance, retail, logistics, technology, healthcare and professional services. Hospitality workers can find roles in luxury hotels, restaurants, clubs and event venues, although competition is strong and shift work is common. The culture blends Cantonese traditions with international influences, offering excellent food, efficient public transport, festivals and a busy urban lifestyle. Housing is expensive, so many newcomers share accommodation or live in areas outside central districts. Employers normally arrange work authorisation for overseas hires under Hong Kong’s General Employment Policy, subject to qualifications, a confirmed job and market-appropriate salary; applicants must not begin work before approval. Dependants may generally accompany approved employment visa holders. New arrivals should prepare proof of qualifications, references, finances and a valid passport, and confirm accommodation, medical coverage and employment benefits before relocating.
