Destination Guide

The United Arab Emirates is not an island but a federation of seven emirates, with Dubai and Abu Dhabi offering the largest hospitality and marketing job markets. Opportunities are available in luxury hotels, resorts, restaurants, tourism, events, retail and aviation. The culture blends Islamic traditions, Emirati heritage and a highly international population; modest dress and respect for local customs are important. Lifestyle options range from beaches, shopping and dining to desert activities, museums and major entertainment events. Summers are extremely hot, while winters are pleasant. Most expatriate employees need an employer-sponsored residence visa, work permit and medical screening; UAE nationals generally follow different employment arrangements. Employers often provide health insurance and sometimes accommodation or allowances, depending on the contract. Before relocating, confirm salary, housing, transport, annual leave, insurance and visa sponsorship. Dubai and Abu Dhabi have high living costs, so budgeting carefully is essential.
