Destination Guide

Hong Kong is a highly connected international city made up of Hong Kong Island, Kowloon, the New Territories, and surrounding islands. Hospitality, engineering, construction, finance, retail, technology, and tourism provide regular employment opportunities. The culture blends Cantonese traditions with international influences; Cantonese is dominant, while English is widely used in hotels and business. The lifestyle is energetic, safe, and convenient, with excellent public transport, diverse food, hiking trails, beaches, and a busy urban environment. Housing is expensive, so many employees share apartments or live farther from the city centre. Foreign workers generally need an employer-sponsored employment visa under the General Employment Policy and must meet qualification and salary requirements before starting work. Employers commonly provide guidance on applications, but candidates should confirm current immigration rules. Local hires need valid Hong Kong identity and employment documentation.
