Destination Guide

Hong Kong offers strong opportunities in hospitality, finance, retail, technology, professional services and international business. Although commonly described as an island destination, the territory includes Hong Kong Island, Kowloon and the New Territories. The culture combines Cantonese traditions, international influences, efficient public transport and a fast-paced working environment. Lifestyle options range from high-rise urban living and excellent restaurants to beaches, hiking trails and outlying islands. Rents can be high, especially near Central, Admiralty and popular residential districts, so many employees choose areas such as Quarry Bay, North Point, Kowloon or the New Territories. Foreign professionals generally need an employment visa sponsored by their employer, with qualifications and a confirmed job offer normally required. Dependants may be eligible for accompanying visas. New arrivals should arrange accommodation, health insurance, banking and a local phone service before or soon after arrival.
