Destination Guide

The Philippines is an archipelago with major employment centers in Luzon, the Visayas, and Mindanao. Manila and nearby cities such as Mandaluyong, Makati, and Taguig offer the strongest opportunities in banking, shared services, technology, retail, and business-process outsourcing. Cebu and Davao are important regional hubs with growing corporate and service sectors. Filipino culture is generally welcoming, family-oriented, and English-friendly, while urban life can be busy and commuting may be challenging. Costs are highest in Metro Manila; provincial cities can be more affordable. Foreign employees normally need an employer-sponsored work permit and an appropriate visa, commonly a 9(g) pre-arranged employment visa. Relocating candidates should confirm sponsorship, housing, healthcare, taxation, and local registration requirements before arrival.
