Destination Guide

Indonesia offers career opportunities in banking, technology, digital commerce, manufacturing, tourism and shared services, with Jakarta and the surrounding Java region serving as the main corporate hub. Java is busy, diverse and convenient for professionals, while Bali offers a slower lifestyle and a large international community. Sumatra, Sulawesi and Kalimantan provide opportunities in natural resources, logistics, agriculture and regional commerce; eastern islands are generally quieter but have fewer corporate roles. Indonesian culture emphasizes respect, community, hospitality and religious diversity. Living costs vary considerably, with Jakarta and Bali usually more expensive than smaller cities. Foreign employees normally need an employer-sponsored work permit and appropriate limited-stay visa; working on a tourist visa is not permitted. Before relocating, confirm sponsorship, tax obligations, healthcare, housing and local registration requirements. Learning basic Indonesian greatly improves daily communication and workplace integration.
