Destination Guide

Indonesia offers opportunities in banking, fintech, technology, shared services, tourism, manufacturing, logistics, and consumer businesses. Jakarta, on Java, is the main financial and corporate centre and is generally the easiest location for international professionals to find specialised employment. Java also offers extensive transport, healthcare, education, and entertainment, although traffic and housing costs can be significant. Bali provides a relaxed lifestyle and strong tourism and digital-work communities, while Sumatra, Kalimantan, and Sulawesi offer opportunities in natural resources, agriculture, infrastructure, and regional services. Indonesian workplace culture values respect, hierarchy, relationship-building, and indirect communication; Bahasa Indonesia is highly useful outside multinational offices. Foreign employees normally need an employer-sponsored work permit and appropriate limited-stay visa, and must not work on a tourist visa. Relocating requires checking immigration rules, tax obligations, housing, healthcare, and local registration before arrival.
