Destination Guide

Indonesia offers varied opportunities across its major islands. Java, especially Jakarta, is the main center for banking, technology, consulting, manufacturing, and corporate careers; living costs and traffic are highest there. Bali has strong tourism, hospitality, creative, and digital-work communities, although professional banking roles are more limited. Sumatra, Kalimantan, and Sulawesi offer opportunities in commodities, energy, logistics, agriculture, infrastructure, and regional services. Indonesian culture generally values politeness, family, community, and respect for religious diversity. Food is affordable and varied, while housing and transport costs depend greatly on the city. Foreign employees normally need an employer-sponsored work permit and appropriate immigration status; working on a tourist visa is not permitted. Relocating to Jakarta usually involves arranging accommodation, health insurance, local registration, and tax documentation. Learning basic Bahasa Indonesia is highly useful, even in international workplaces.
