Destination Guide

Sri Lanka offers opportunities in apparel manufacturing, information technology, tourism, finance, logistics, engineering, healthcare and business services. Colombo and nearby industrial zones provide the widest range of professional and administrative jobs, while regional cities offer opportunities in manufacturing, tourism and agriculture. The country has a warm tropical climate, diverse communities, strong family traditions and a rich blend of Sinhalese, Tamil, Muslim and colonial influences. Living costs are generally lower than in many Western countries, although Colombo is more expensive than smaller towns. Public transport is affordable, and English is widely used in workplaces. Foreign nationals normally need an employment or residence visa sponsored by an approved employer; working without authorization is not permitted. Relocating employees should arrange qualifications, medical documents, accommodation and local banking in advance. Sri Lanka’s beaches, mountains, wildlife and historic cities make it attractive for both work and leisure.
