Destination Guide

Indonesia offers diverse opportunities in hospitality, finance, technology, education, tourism and international business. Jakarta, on Java, is the main corporate centre and provides the widest professional network, while Bali is especially strong for resorts, wellness, restaurants and tourism. Java is busy, highly urbanised and convenient for transport and services; Bali offers a more relaxed lifestyle, beaches and a large expatriate community. Other islands, including Lombok, Sumatra, Sulawesi and Kalimantan, provide growing opportunities in resorts, natural tourism, resources and infrastructure. Indonesian culture generally values respect, community, modesty and relationship-building. Living costs vary: Jakarta and Bali can be expensive in popular areas, while local housing and food are more affordable elsewhere. Foreign employees normally need employer sponsorship and an appropriate work permit and stay visa; working on a tourist visa is not permitted. Relocation should include verified employment documents, health insurance, accommodation research and local tax advice.
