Destination Guide

Australia is a large island continent with strong employment opportunities in hospitality, tourism, construction, healthcare, technology and engineering. Melbourne offers a multicultural lifestyle, excellent public transport, major sporting and arts events, cafés, beaches and diverse neighbourhoods. The work culture is generally professional but informal, with emphasis on safety, punctuality, teamwork and employee rights. Living costs, especially rent, can be high, so budgeting is important. Job applicants usually need an appropriate visa, such as an employer-sponsored visa, skilled visa, working holiday visa or student visa, depending on nationality, age, qualifications and occupation. Maintenance roles may require recognised trade credentials, licensing for regulated electrical or plumbing work, and workplace safety training. New arrivals should arrange tax registration, a local bank account, health insurance where required and suitable accommodation. Melbourne’s mild but changeable weather makes layered clothing useful, while regional hospitality locations may offer lower living costs and staff accommodation.
