Destination Guide

Hong Kong offers strong opportunities in hospitality, finance, technology, retail, aviation and professional services, with major employers concentrated on Hong Kong Island, Kowloon and the New Territories. The culture blends Cantonese traditions, international business practices, festivals, excellent dining and a fast-paced urban lifestyle. Housing can be expensive, but public transport is efficient and residents enjoy hiking, beaches, islands and vibrant arts and nightlife. English is widely used in business, while Cantonese is valuable for local integration; Mandarin is also useful. Overseas employees normally need an employment visa sponsored by their employer, supported by qualifications, relevant experience and a confirmed job offer. Dependants may generally apply for accompanying visas. Candidates should confirm sponsorship, medical coverage, housing assistance, taxation and relocation support with Shangri-La before accepting an offer.
