Destination Guide

Malaysia offers opportunities in hotels, resorts, restaurants, retail, technology, finance, manufacturing and shared services, with particularly strong demand in Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Langkawi, Sabah and Sarawak. Its island destinations, including Langkawi, Penang, Tioman and parts of Sabah, combine beaches, nature and growing tourism industries. Malaysian culture is diverse, shaped by Malay, Chinese, Indian and Indigenous communities, with English widely used in business. Lifestyle costs vary: Kuala Lumpur is more expensive, while many resort areas offer a slower pace but fewer services. Foreign employees generally need an employer-sponsored Employment Pass, and approval depends on the role, qualifications and salary. Employers usually guide the application and immigration process. Before relocating, confirm accommodation, transport, healthcare, taxation and dependent arrangements. Respect for local customs, religious practices and Malaysia’s tropical climate will make settling in easier.
