Destination Guide

The Philippines is an archipelago with major employment hubs in Luzon, Cebu in the Visayas, and resort islands such as Boracay and Palawan. Hospitality opportunities are common in hotels, restaurants, cruise operations, diving resorts, events, and tourism services, although resort work can be seasonal and demanding. Filipino culture is generally welcoming, family-oriented, and sociable, with English widely used in workplaces. Island life offers beaches, outdoor activities, affordable local food, and a relaxed atmosphere, but transport, healthcare, internet, and imported goods can be more limited outside major cities. Foreign nationals normally need an employer-sponsored work permit and an appropriate visa before legally working; requirements can involve the Department of Labor and Employment and immigration authorities. Candidates should verify current rules, accommodation, service-charge arrangements, taxes, and relocation costs with Shangri-La before accepting an offer.
