Destination Guide

The United Arab Emirates is a federation of seven emirates rather than an island nation, with major hospitality opportunities in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Ras Al Khaimah and Sharjah. Hotels, resorts, restaurants, catering companies and tourism businesses regularly recruit chefs, servers, housekeepers and supervisors. The culture combines Emirati traditions with a highly international population; modest dress and respect for local customs are important, especially during Ramadan. Lifestyle ranges from modern city living and shopping to beaches, desert activities and cultural attractions. Employers commonly sponsor an employment visa, work permit, medical examination and Emirates ID, although the exact package should be confirmed in writing. Many hotel roles include accommodation, meals, transport and insurance. New arrivals should budget for deposits, personal expenses and possible relocation costs, and verify that recruitment is conducted through the employer or an authorized agency.
