Destination Guide

Hong Kong is a compact, energetic destination with strong opportunities in hotels, restaurants, tourism, finance, retail, technology and professional services. Although it is not one island, Hong Kong Island, Kowloon and the New Territories are linked by an excellent MTR, bus and ferry network. The culture blends Cantonese traditions with international influences, and English is widely used in business and hospitality. Life is fast-paced, urban and convenient, with excellent food, hiking trails, beaches and nightlife, though housing can be expensive and apartments are often small. Overseas applicants normally need an employment visa sponsored by an approved employer, with relevant qualifications or experience and a confirmed job offer. Dependants may qualify for related visas. New arrivals should budget for rent, deposits, transport and healthcare, and check current Immigration Department requirements before relocating.
