Destination Guide

The United Arab Emirates is not an island but a federation of seven emirates, including Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah and Ras Al Khaimah. Hospitality offers many opportunities in hotels, resorts, restaurants, catering, aviation and events, with strong demand for trained culinary staff. The culture blends Emirati traditions with a large international community; modest dress and respect for Islamic customs are important, especially during Ramadan. Lifestyle is modern and convenient, with excellent shopping, beaches, dining and public transport, although summer heat is intense and living costs can be high in Dubai and Abu Dhabi. Most overseas employees require employer-sponsored residence and work visas, while the employer normally arranges medical testing, Emirates ID processing and a work permit. Relocation packages may include accommodation, meals, transport, insurance and annual airfare. Contracts and benefits should be checked carefully before accepting an offer.
