Destination Guide

Malaysia offers opportunities in hotels, resorts, restaurants, events, tourism and customer service, particularly in Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Langkawi, Sabah and Sarawak. Island destinations such as Langkawi, Penang and parts of Sabah provide a relaxed lifestyle, beaches, outdoor activities and strong hospitality demand, although living costs and transport vary by location. Malaysian culture is diverse, combining Malay, Chinese, Indian and Indigenous traditions, with English widely used in tourism and business. Employees should expect warm weather, seasonal rain and a generally community-oriented lifestyle. Foreign nationals normally need an employer-sponsored employment pass before starting work; the employer usually handles the application and supporting documents. Candidates should confirm visa eligibility, salary, accommodation, medical insurance and relocation assistance directly with Shangri-La. Renting near the property and arranging local banking and transport are practical first steps.
