Destination Guide

Malaysia offers strong opportunities in hotels, resorts, tourism, events, aviation, food and beverage, and travel services, particularly in Penang, Langkawi, Sabah and Kuala Lumpur. Penang combines beaches, heritage streets, excellent food and a relaxed urban lifestyle; Langkawi offers a quieter island setting focused on resorts and nature. Malaysian culture is multicultural, with Malay, Chinese, Indian and indigenous influences, and English is widely used in business and hospitality. Living costs are generally moderate, although popular resort areas can be expensive. Employers normally sponsor an Employment Pass for eligible expatriate employees, with approval required before starting work; requirements vary by nationality, role and salary. Relocating candidates should confirm sponsorship, tax, housing, healthcare and dependent arrangements with Shangri-La. Malaysia has a warm tropical climate, so newcomers should prepare for high humidity and seasonal rain.
