Destination Guide

Hong Kong offers strong opportunities in hospitality, property management, engineering, finance, technology, retail and tourism. Its culture blends Cantonese traditions with international influences, and workplaces are generally fast-paced, professional and multilingual. Life is convenient, with excellent public transport, diverse food, major shopping districts and easy access to hiking trails, beaches and outlying islands. Accommodation can be expensive, particularly on Hong Kong Island and in Kowloon, so many workers share apartments or live in the New Territories. Foreign employees normally need an approved employment visa arranged with employer support before starting work; qualifications and relevant experience may be requested. Applicants should confirm medical, document and immigration requirements with the employer. Relocation planning should include housing, transport, health insurance, banking and local registration. Cantonese is valuable, while English is widely used in hotels and international businesses.
