Destination Guide

Hong Kong offers strong opportunities in hospitality, finance, retail, technology, aviation, events, and international business. Hotel employees benefit from a multicultural workplace and access to a large regional travel market. Cantonese is widely spoken, while English is common in business and tourism; Mandarin is also useful. Life is energetic and convenient, with excellent public transport, diverse food, shopping, beaches, hiking trails, and lively arts and nightlife scenes. Housing can be expensive, especially in central areas, so many newcomers consider Kowloon or the New Territories. Foreign professionals normally need an employment visa sponsored by their employer, with approval based on qualifications, salary, and the role’s business need. Dependants may usually apply for dependant visas. Before relocating, confirm visa sponsorship, medical coverage, housing support, working hours, and benefits directly with Shangri-La. Hong Kong is a city and territory rather than a single island, although Hong Kong Island is one of its best-known areas.
