Destination Guide

Hong Kong offers strong opportunities in hospitality, tourism, finance, retail, technology, marketing and international business. The city combines Cantonese traditions, British influences and a highly global outlook, with a fast-paced working culture and excellent public transport. Lifestyle options range from dense urban neighborhoods and late-night dining to beaches, hiking trails and outlying islands such as Lantau, Cheung Chau and Lamma. Housing is expensive, so many newcomers share apartments or live in districts connected by the MTR. International schools, healthcare and everyday services are widely available, although space can be limited. Most overseas professionals need an employment visa sponsored by their employer; applicants generally need a confirmed job, relevant qualifications and suitable experience. Dependants may usually apply for dependant visas. New arrivals should arrange accommodation, a Hong Kong identity card, banking and insurance after approval. Cantonese is widely spoken, while English is common in professional and service settings.
