Destination Guide

Singapore is a compact island city-state with strong opportunities in hospitality, food and beverage, tourism, finance, technology and healthcare. Its multicultural society blends Chinese, Malay, Indian and international influences, reflected in its food, festivals and neighbourhoods. The lifestyle is safe, efficient and urban, with excellent public transport, shopping, healthcare and dining, although housing and daily expenses can be high. Popular areas include Orchard Road, Marina Bay, Sentosa, Tiong Bahru and the East Coast. Foreign workers normally need an approved work pass before starting employment; the employer usually submits the application. Eligibility depends on the role, salary, qualifications and Ministry of Manpower requirements. Relocating staff should budget for accommodation, deposits, transport, insurance and administration. Singapore is hot and humid year-round, with frequent rain. Learning basic local etiquette and respecting workplace diversity helps newcomers settle in successfully.
