Destination Guide

Singapore is a highly developed city-state with strong opportunities in hospitality, tourism, food and beverage, healthcare, technology and finance. The culture is multicultural, orderly and fast-paced, with English widely used at work alongside Mandarin, Malay and Tamil. Lifestyle options range from international dining and shopping to parks, beaches, museums and efficient public transport. Rent and daily expenses can be high, especially in central areas, so employees should compare housing and commuting costs before relocating. Foreign professionals generally need an employer-sponsored work pass, such as an Employment Pass or S Pass, and approval depends on salary, qualifications and prevailing government criteria. Employers usually guide successful applicants through the process. New arrivals should arrange accommodation, healthcare coverage, banking and a local mobile plan. Singapore's tropical climate is hot and humid throughout the year, with frequent rain.
