Destination Guide

Hong Kong offers strong opportunities in asset management, investment banking, private banking, fintech, risk, compliance, technology, and trading. Its international financial centre attracts global banks, insurers, asset managers, and professional-services firms. The culture is energetic and commercially focused, combining Cantonese and Chinese traditions with a strong international influence. English is widely used in business, while Cantonese and Mandarin are valuable for many client-facing roles. Lifestyle options range from dense urban districts and excellent restaurants to beaches, hiking trails, and outlying islands. Housing is expensive, especially near Central, but public transport is efficient and reliable. Foreign professionals generally need employer sponsorship for an employment visa and must meet qualification and salary requirements. Employers commonly assist with visa applications and relocation. Healthcare, schools, and daily services are accessible, although families should budget carefully for accommodation and education.
