Destination Guide

Hong Kong offers strong opportunities in banking, finance, technology, compliance, professional services, logistics, and education. Its culture combines Chinese traditions with international influences, and English is widely used in business, while Cantonese and Mandarin are valuable socially and professionally. Life is fast-paced, highly connected, and convenient, with excellent public transport, extensive dining, shopping, nightlife, and easy access to beaches, hiking trails, and nearby islands. Housing is expensive, particularly in central districts, so many professionals consider areas such as Kowloon, the New Territories, or outlying islands. Overseas hires generally need an employment visa under the General Employment Policy, sponsored by the employer and supported by qualifications, relevant experience, and a confirmed job offer. Spouses and eligible children may usually apply as dependants, with dependent spouses generally permitted to work. Relocating employees should budget for housing deposits, healthcare, schooling if relevant, and international moving costs.
