Destination Guide

Hong Kong offers strong opportunities in investment banking, quantitative finance, asset management, fintech, insurance, technology, logistics, and professional services. The city is fast-paced, international, and highly competitive, with English widely used in business and Cantonese dominant in daily life; Mandarin is also useful. Hong Kong Island, Kowloon, and the New Territories provide excellent public transport, extensive dining, shopping, hiking, beaches, and cultural attractions. Housing is expensive, although efficient rail connections allow commuting from more affordable districts. International hires normally require an employment visa sponsored by the employer; graduates of eligible Hong Kong universities may qualify for the IANG scheme, while other professionals commonly use the General Employment Policy. Employers usually assist with visa paperwork and relocation. New arrivals should arrange accommodation, a local bank account, health insurance details, and an Octopus transport card. The city is convenient and safe, but working hours in markets and banking can be demanding.
