Destination Guide

Hong Kong offers strong opportunities in investment banking, legal services, asset management, technology, trade, logistics and professional services. Its culture blends Chinese traditions with international business practices, and English is widely used in corporate workplaces alongside Cantonese and Mandarin. Life is energetic and convenient, with efficient public transport, excellent restaurants, dense urban neighborhoods and easy access to beaches, hiking trails and nearby islands. Housing is expensive, particularly around Central, Admiralty and Mid-Levels, so many professionals consider areas such as Kowloon, New Territories or the outlying islands. Foreign professionals generally need an employment visa sponsored by their employer, with approval depending on qualifications, salary and the availability of a genuine position. Employers commonly assist with visa applications, relocation and sometimes temporary accommodation. Healthcare and international schools are widely available, though costly without suitable benefits.
