Destination Guide

Spain’s Canary Islands offer varied hospitality and tourism opportunities, especially in hotel operations, sales, restaurants, customer service, entertainment, maintenance and travel services. Tenerife, Gran Canaria, Lanzarote and Fuerteventura have large international visitor markets and year-round tourism, although employment can be seasonal. Island life combines warm weather, beaches, volcanic landscapes and outdoor activities with a relaxed, social culture. Living costs, particularly rent, can be high in popular resort areas, so accommodation and transport should be considered carefully. EU, EEA and Swiss citizens generally may live and work in Spain after completing local registration requirements. Non-EU applicants usually need an employer-sponsored work permit and appropriate residence visa before starting employment. Applicants should confirm contract terms, commission arrangements, working hours, accommodation support and language requirements. Spanish is useful for everyday life, while English and other European languages are valuable in tourism roles.
