Job Description

The Facilities Engineer supports Amazon data-center infrastructure in Japan, ensuring reliable operation of electrical, mechanical, HVAC, fire-protection and building systems. Experience with power distribution, generators, UPS systems, cooling equipment, building-management systems or industrial controls is valuable. The candidate is expected to work safely, respond effectively to incidents, complete preventive maintenance, document work accurately and cooperate with contractors and operations teams. Because data centers operate continuously, shift work, on-call duties, physical site inspections and occasional nights, weekends or holidays may be required. Japanese communication skills and practical English are often advantageous.

Destination Guide

Japan is an island nation with major opportunities in technology, engineering, manufacturing, logistics, tourism and healthcare. Tokyo and the surrounding Kanto region offer the largest job market, while Osaka, Nagoya, Fukuoka, Sapporo and Okinawa provide different lifestyles and industry strengths. Japanese workplaces generally value punctuality, teamwork, respect and careful communication; business Japanese can be important outside international companies. Living costs are highest in Tokyo, while regional cities may offer more space and lower rent. Public transportation is excellent, though some data-center locations require a car. Foreign professionals normally need an employer-sponsored work visa, with an Engineer/Specialist in Humanities/International Services status commonly relevant to technical roles. Employers may assist with sponsorship and relocation, but qualifications, documents and immigration approval are required. Research housing, health insurance, taxes, commuting and emergency procedures before moving.
