Destination Guide

Malaysia offers good opportunities in banking, fintech, shared services, technology, manufacturing, tourism and multinational companies, especially in Kuala Lumpur, Penang and Johor. The country combines Malay, Chinese, Indian and indigenous influences, reflected in its food, festivals, languages and welcoming social culture. Kuala Lumpur provides modern amenities, international schools, shopping and varied dining, while Penang offers a slower lifestyle, heritage areas and strong technology and services sectors. Living costs are generally lower than in Singapore, though central Kuala Lumpur housing can be expensive. Foreign professionals usually need employer sponsorship for an Employment Pass, and the hiring company normally manages the application. Candidates should confirm current salary, tax, pass and relocation rules with UOB and Malaysian authorities. Relocation planning should include housing, healthcare, transport, banking, schooling and local weather, which is hot and humid year-round with seasonal heavy rain.
