Destination Guide

Malaysia offers varied island-based hospitality opportunities in Langkawi, Penang, Tioman, Redang, Perhentian, Pangkor and Sabah’s resort islands. Jobs are commonly available in hotels, restaurants, diving centres, spas, guest services and tourism operations, with stronger seasonal demand during school holidays. Island life is relaxed and outdoors-focused, with beaches, seafood, water sports and close-knit communities, although transport, healthcare and shopping can be more limited than on the mainland. Malaysian culture is multicultural, with Malay, Chinese, Indian and Indigenous influences; English is widely used in tourism. Foreign employees normally need an employer-sponsored employment pass, and should not begin work on a tourist visa. Employers may assist with permits and relocation, but candidates should confirm accommodation, meals, flights, insurance and contract terms before accepting an offer.
