Destination Guide

Singapore is a compact, multicultural island city with strong opportunities in hospitality, tourism, aviation, retail, finance, technology and healthcare. English is widely used at work, while Mandarin, Malay and Tamil are also official languages. The culture combines Chinese, Malay, Indian and international influences, reflected in festivals, food and neighborhoods. Life is safe, clean and convenient, with excellent public transport, though accommodation and everyday costs can be high. Foreign employees generally need an employer-sponsored work pass, such as an Employment Pass, S Pass or Work Permit; eligibility depends on salary, qualifications, experience and government approval. Before relocating, confirm the pass type, medical requirements, housing arrangements and employment benefits. Singapore’s tropical climate is hot and humid year-round, with frequent rain, so lightweight clothing and adaptable footwear are useful.
