Destination Guide

Hong Kong offers strong opportunities in hotels, finance, retail, aviation, technology, logistics, healthcare and tourism. Its culture blends Cantonese traditions with international influences, and English is widely used in business and hospitality, although Cantonese is valuable for customer-facing roles. Life is fast-paced, highly connected and convenient, with excellent public transport, diverse restaurants, hiking trails, beaches and vibrant neighbourhoods. Hong Kong is a city and territory made up of Hong Kong Island, Kowloon and the New Territories, rather than a single island. Overseas employees generally need an approved employment visa before starting work; employers usually sponsor applications under the General Employment Policy, requiring a confirmed job, suitable qualifications and market-level pay. Relocation costs, compact housing, deposits and schooling can be significant. New arrivals should arrange accommodation, insurance, banking and an identity card after approval.
