Destination Guide

Hong Kong is a compact international city and island territory with strong opportunities in hospitality, finance, banking, technology, retail, logistics and professional services. Its culture combines Cantonese traditions, international influences, efficient public transport and a fast-paced working style. Lifestyle options range from dense urban districts and excellent restaurants to beaches, hiking trails and outlying islands. Rent is high, especially in central areas, so many employees live in Kowloon or the New Territories and commute by MTR. Overseas professionals normally need an employer-sponsored General Employment Policy visa before starting work; applicants generally require suitable qualifications or experience, a confirmed job and market-level salary. Employers usually assist with the application, while dependants may qualify for accompanying visas. New arrivals should arrange housing, insurance, banking and an HKID card after approval.
