Destination Guide

Malaysia offers opportunities in luxury hotels, resorts, restaurants, wellness, tourism and events, especially in Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Langkawi, Sabah and Sarawak. Penang combines heritage streets, excellent food and a lively expatriate community, while Langkawi offers a quieter beach lifestyle and many resort jobs. Sabah provides access to beaches, rainforest and island activities, although some locations are more remote. Malaysian culture is multicultural, with Malay, Chinese, Indian and indigenous influences; English is widely used in hospitality, alongside Bahasa Malaysia. Living costs are moderate, though island accommodation and transport can be less convenient. Foreign employees normally need an employer-sponsored Employment Pass, and the company usually manages the application before work begins. Candidates should verify salary, housing, medical benefits, tax treatment and contract terms directly with Shangri-La. Bring appropriate documents, allow time for immigration processing and expect a warm, service-focused working environment.
