Destination Guide

Malaysia offers varied opportunities in hotels, resorts, restaurants, events, tourism, retail and corporate services, particularly in Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Langkawi, Sabah and Sarawak. Island destinations such as Langkawi, Penang, Tioman and the Perhentian Islands provide a relaxed lifestyle, beaches, outdoor activities and strong seasonal tourism, although transport and housing can be more limited than on the mainland. Malaysian culture is multicultural, with Malay, Chinese, Indian and indigenous influences; English is widely used in hospitality and business. Living costs vary, with resort islands often having higher prices for imported goods. Foreign employees normally need an employer-sponsored Employment Pass, and the company generally manages the application. Candidates should secure a written offer, confirm accommodation and medical coverage, check pass conditions and arrange documents before relocating. Tropical weather, monsoon seasons and occasional island ferry or flight disruptions should also be considered.
